Hi everyone! My name is Missy and I live in Austin with my husband and 2 out of 3 of our children. We also have 6 cats and a host of other wild critters that come and go on our property! Lately, we have been visited by an armadillo who our middle daughter has affectionately named 'Leprosy' - apparently she read somewhere that armadillos carry Leprosy! Anyhow, we also have a family of ducks out in the creek and a variety of gorgeous wild birds. Our 3rd daughter, who lives in Ft. Hood with her Army husband, has our 4 grandchildren (3 boys and a darling girl) with #5 (another boy!!) due any second - literally!! My husband and I just got our first home together, after renting for 7 years, and it is on the banks of a rather large creek and surrounded by photo opps! In fact, it is the surroundings of the home that drew me to it and caused me to engage in a bidding war with 2 other families for the house!! We won! We moved in on Valentine's Day and have loved every second of it. When I am not working part time as the Office Manager of a small, local, church I can be found outside walking the property in search of things to photograph!
My most recent trip back home to New York in 2011 yielded a lot of gorgeous photos, the best of which I have posted. I'm, by no means, a professional but I have been complimented on my photos and my 'eye' for photography. I know I don't have the stuff (or patience!!) it takes to turn this hobby into a big money maker but I like to treat every shot as if the potential is there!! I don't have a professional grade camera (although I'd love to) only because I can't justify sinking the $3500. it would cost for me to have one. I do have a Fujifilm Finepix S that belonged to our oldest daughter. She gave it to me when she upgraded to a Canon Eos - lucky dog!! Most of the pictures I have posted on this site were taken with my other camera (the brand name won't come to me right now!) and it is pretty good but the shutter speed really blows and I don't know how to speed it up. I have also taken some pictures with the camera on my Razrr so I am pretty diverse! If the shot is good, it doesn't matter what I took it with!
I'd really like to have discussions with other amateur photogs on the board. We all share a love of photography, or we wouldn't be on this site, and we are all open to making a little extra $$ thanks to our sucky economy! This site is really cool and I think we could all benefit from being sounding boards and bouncing ideas off one another. I look forward to meeting other like minded individuals on here. Thanks for taking the time to read my long-winded biography!! All the best....
